A website is your personal piece of virtual real-estate.  Like any piece of land, it needs to be maintained and updated. There are many benefits of a Website Makeover. This article will go over some areas that you will want to take into consideration before you begin the makeover of your website.

Retro may work for clothing styles but not for your business website.

Over the years the accepted layout of a website has changed.  The URL’s, page titles and on page content are all critical factors that search engines use to distinguish your website from the millions of other sites.
If you have not gone in and done a makeover on your business site in the last year then what are you waiting for?

What should your makeover consist of?

Site Flow - Does your website flow in an easy to understand way?  Do your visitors know what to do as they visit each page?  Can they find and purchase your product in a natural manner or do they really need to hunt it down?  Are your links all working? (Nothing worse than clicking on a link to find the information gone).

Site Maps - Do you have a site map? If so, how often do you update it? Site maps are used to let the search engines know where and how to find all your content.  If they can’t find it, they can’t deliver it to the user queries looking for it.

Page Titles - Does each page on your site have a unique page title?  Is the title relevant to the content on that page? Do your keywords show up in the titles?

Descriptions - Do you have good descriptions for each of your web pages? Descriptions will appear under the page title in a search query and your customers will read that description when making their decision to click on your link.

Keywords - Do you know what keywords your idea customers are using to find your products?  Are you creating content around these keywords? Are these keywords used in your Meta descriptions and titles?

URL’s – Are your websites URL’s clean and key worded? Do they look like this yourwebsite.com/item0213.html or yourwebsite.com/best_ribs_in_town. Do you understand the difference between using a dash (-) or an underscore (_) in your URLs and how they say different things to a search engine?

Content – Do you have great content on your pages?  Do you stay up to date with the Google algorithm changes? If you plan to have a dominate presence on the internet you need to be an authority page for your product and service.  This will only become more of a factor as the years pass.
